The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation released its annual Municipal Equality Index (MEI) for 2021, the 10th year of the index and the fourth year Arlington has been included. The town received a final score of 100 points.

The index examines how inclusive municipal laws, policies and services are of LGBTQ people who live and work there. Cities are rated based on nondiscrimination laws, the municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement, and the city leadership's public position on equality.

"We continue to strive to make Arlington a community that is inclusive and open to all people, and I am very pleased that we have again received 100 points on the MEI Index," said Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine in a Nov. 23 town news release. "I’d like to thank Arlington’s DEI Director Jill Harvey, staff and Arlington’s LGBTQIA+ Rainbow Commission for their ongoing efforts to making Arlington an inclusion community."

Lisa Krinsky, cochair of the Arlington LGBTQIA+ Rainbow Commission, said in a statement: “We are very proud of Arlington’s HRC/MEI score of 100 for a third year, a reflection of townwide efforts to be an inclusive and safe community for LGBTQIA+ residents, employees, and visitors.

“And we still have more work to do!  We look forward to working with town administrators to promote more learning, policy review and programming so that Arlington continues to meet the needs of all who live and work here.”

Arlington’s past scores were 98 in 2018, 100 in 2019 and 100 in 2020.
