FEATURED MUSICAL ACTS for SAT SEPTEMBER 29

Will Hatch & Co. (1 p.m.)

Will Hatch is a singer-songwriter from Concord, New Hampshire. Illustrating a nuanced take on classic American themes, Hatch’s songs feature lonesome lyrics about heartbreak and booze, reality and desire. Despite his melancholic introspection, there is a silver lining. Spinning spider webs on guitar and banjo, his songs meld poetry with detailed finger picking. Fans of Townes Van Zandt and Leonard Cohen, or guitar greats Mississippi John Hurt and Doc Watson, will appreciate Hatch’s style. Set to release his debut LP For You in 2017, Hatch tours New England as a solo act when not playing with his 5 piece band Will Hatch & Co.

Phil Berman & the Flying Leap (4 p.m.)

Phil Berman is a singer-songwriter in Cambridge, MA whose warm melodies and toothsome lyrics concoct a unique pop alchemy at the crossroads of Stephen Sondheim, Joni Mitchell, and Benny Goodman. His first record, The Battle of Bunker Hill, transmutes folk to big band with a wink, a nibble, and a quick turn of phrase.

With his honeyed, mercurial voice, Berman creates a musical menagerie of timeless tunes and lush orchestrations hewn from the heart.

COMMUNITY PARTNER: Arlington Bike Advisory Committee

The Arlington Bicycle Advisory Committee (ABAC) was appointed by the Board of Selectmen in 1996 to advise the Town on local bicycling conditions. The all-volunteer committee promotes all forms of safe bicycling on town roadways and the Minuteman Bikeway — from recreational riding to using the bicycle for transportation and errands.

FOOD VENDOR: Tango Restaurant

The series, whose host is Aeronaut Brewing Co. of Somerville, is set for Saturday afternoons from July through September at Whittemore Park in Arlington Center. The park is the green space at Mass. Ave. and Mystic Street in front of the Jefferson Cutter House, the historic home of the Dallin Museum and the Chamber of Commerce. The area is near the Minuteman Bikeway.

The series will include live music and performances by emerging local bands, food vendors at tents featuring local cuisine -- Tango Restaurant for July -- as well as beer and cider.

Aeronaut Arlington takes place every Saturday from noon to 7. In August, the series will include Saturdays and Sundays (both noon to 7), with tentative plans to extend the series past August through Sept. 29. The Select Board approved the series June 25

Earlier info

The series is open to all, an Aeronaut news release says. In partnership with the town of Arlington and its Planning and Community Development Department, the company strives to foster meaningful community connections, create a fun neighborhood gathering place and provide a supportive platform for emerging artists and musicians from Arlington and beyond. "This will be a fun, vibrant location smack dab in the middle of town, and fulfills the goal of economic revitalization and the Arts & Culture Action Plan to activate underutilized town properties with programs and events," the release says.

Aeronaut is partnering with community organizations, including Arlington Bike Advisory Committee, Arlington Center for the Arts and the Dallin Museum. Some local merchants plan to offer special promotions to beer-garden patrons who come to their business wearing their beer-garden wristband. A listing of those promotions will also be available to beer-garden patrons in order to encourage them to shop at local businesses and dine at local restaurants.

Aeronaut has welcomed thousands of fans over the past two summers at other beer gardens including a popular pop-up at Zone 3 in Allston, and looks forward to the Arlington series.
